Stress, Ill Health & Burnout
How do your employees unwind? Do they have a passion? Do they do any sports? Do they drink or smoke too much? Do they sleep well? Do they enjoy life at the moment? Do they laugh enough? Do they like to take care of their physical appearance? Do they find time to do useless things? Are they happy? Are they happy working for you?
In Switzerland, work is the first cause of stress. Costs are not always well know but an assumption of 14 Billion Swiss Francs per year is not extreme (absenteeism, sick leave, decrease in productivity).
Insurance companies are looking at increasing their rates for some companies where stress and burnout is high and nothing is clearly done about it.
It is also a legal responsibility for the employer to protect the physical and mental state of their employees (Art 2OLT3 of Swiss Labor Law) « the employer must take all necessary measures to ensure and improve the physical and mental health of its employees. Specifically, it must ensure that:
- work conditions are adequate (ergonomics and hygiene)
- health is not damaged by physical, chemical or biological
phenomenon - excessive or repetitive efforts are avoided
- work is organized correctly
